Book Review: The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick

Book Synopsis

Genre: Fiction, Romance

Meet Pat. Pat has a theory: his life is a movie produced by God. And his God-given mission is to become physically fit and emotionally literate, whereupon God will ensure a happy ending for him — the return of his estranged wife, Nikki. (It might not come as a surprise to learn that Pat has spent time in a mental health facility.) The problem is, Pat’s now home, and everything feels off. No one will talk to him about Nikki; his beloved Philadelphia Eagles keep losing; he’s being pursued by the deeply odd Tiffany; his new therapist seems to recommend adultery as a form of therapy. Plus, he’s being hunted by Kenny G!

I only heard of this book after I’d watched the film- which I’d give 309492* ’cause it was SO awesome! Also Bradley Cooper is beautiful.

Right. So. This book was awesome. It’s so inspiring! Two completely messed up people come together and make something so beautiful together! This is why humanity can be awesome.

The book is written from Pat’s point of view and the language is quite childlike at times which was interesting. It was nevertheless enjoyable and really quick to read at under 300 pages. What I loved most about Pat was his mentality: he would always try and find the silver lining in a cloud. And it’s such a great way to think. This book will make you realise that things might not always go to plan but there’s a reason why. Like Batman’s Dad said, we fall so we can rise, or something along those lines.

ANYWAY. I recommend this book fore everyone- woman, man, elephant- it will no doubt lift your heart. Unless you’re undead and have no soul. Honestly, it’s so refreshing to read a book where things go so wrong but turn out so right for Pat in a way he hadn’t anticipated. It’s amazing what good can come into someone’s life when they let go of the wrong thing.

GO READ! I have nothing bad to say.
