Review

Firstly, there has been a lot of hype about this book, not only is it being thoroughly advertised, it’s a bestseller and it’s a book being read by quite a few book clubs.

When I read the blurb I was impressed and I like reading thrillers (is it classed as a thriller?). The book started off strong, Nick’s wife Amy goes missing in the middle of the day and it looks like there was a struggle. After a few chapters I got bored and from what I’ve heard from other readers, they’ve felt the same. I had to push my way through quite a lot of this book and I was ready to give up on it but I wanted to know the ending.

I have to say the premise and plot are very good which explains why it’s a best seller but I felt it could have been written better, especially when it came to the characters. I can’t say that there was one character in this book that I liked.

Right from the beginning I disliked Nick but I guess that’s the point right? But nothing prepared me for how much I hate Amy. Amy is a despicable character in every way, a complete sociopath, it disgusts me that she has this God complex that no one notices until it’s too late. She thinks so much of herself she writes a book about being Amazing.

Final Thoughts

This book was highly disappointing, especially the ending. The only reason I kept reading was because I was looking forward to Amy’s lies being revealed and her being institutionalised for all her crimes but NO! She gets away literally with MURDER. Then she manipulates Nick into staying with her and that’s the end of that? Seriously?
